Greater awareness of green issues and the effect our waste is having on the environment, gives us all an excuse to discover Compost Bins Are Easy To Start. There are considerable amounts of home waste materials available for composting and helping to reduce the strain on landfill sites. The soil in our gardens will benefit greatly from the natural recycling process of everyday home waste.

When starting compost bins, grass should be thoroughly dispersed into a pile with plenty of dry material, like straw litter or another bulking agent. Grass should be added in thin layers so as not to compact. You will also want to make sure there are worms added to the compost bin. Drill a few holes in the bin so your worms get plenty of air. Worms are sensitive to light and will move to the lower layers of the bin. The worms will go to the center of each pile to hide from the light. Also the compost bin needs to be able to dissuade animals from getting at any food in the compost.and have sufficient ventilation so the compost can get the air and water it needs to break down.  

Once you have the bin set up, you can add your food scraps. Also, remember it is better to omit cooked kitchen waste such as grease, meat, bones, and fat. The worms will follow the food scraps around the bin. It is the surface area of the bed not the bed depth that determines the worm population. Worms are the most satisfactory and efficient type of aid to use for composting. The worms will burrow into the bedding away from the light. The worms will also migrate to a new bedding so you can harvest the compost.

Compost bins can be made from the yard trimmings collected curbside. Leaves are still thrown away as garbage. Spread the material in a thick layer (3-4 inches) on the soil surface from where it will slowly mix. They must be shredded outside or in a very well ventilated area. Spread the compost on the weeds to make them ranker. In some climates and areas without runner grasses it might have some benefit. In some climates with clayey soil that holds moisture well, gardeners can dry-farmâ€. In some climates watering the pile may be necessary. And if you have any plumbing experience why not add a hose spigot near the bottom of the bin. However, you must also routinely check for bin contamination and overflow problems.

You can buy commercially-made compost bins with secure fitted lids which are pest-proof. You can buy compost or make your own. If you choose to buy bagged compost or make your own, you return organic matter and nutrients to the soil in a form readily useable to plants. By improving plant health by providing a food source, you are indirectly improving the condition of the soil. They must all meet specific requirements and must be practically odorless. They must produce compost in 14 days.
