For the optimum compounds, grass should be mixed with other materials. This helps the worms move away from the light and burrow into the bedding. Spread the scraps in a thin layer on top of the bedding. It is best to run leaves through a 3 1/2 horse power leaf shredder since shredded leaves compost much more quickly. Make sure the worms stay moist and out of direct heat or light.
